Dave Gibb Visits Boisdale
On June 15th Dave Gibb – Cartoonist visited our school. Dave is a very talented and entertaining cartoonist who conducted three workshops for our students.

Preps, grade 1 & 2
The following are some of the comments made by the children after their workshop with Dave.
“There are 3 steps to cartooning – practice, practice, practice”
“Dave drew Declan on a motorbike, it was great”
“Faces are very important especially eyes, ears & eyebrows and mouth & teeth”
“Kids have freckles and old people have wrinkles”
“Cartoons show emotions like love, happiness, anger or are just silly”
“Do big eyes joined together”
“Draw heads like potatoes, peanuts, bananas, eggs or anything””

Grade 3 & 4
After the 3/4 session the students said – ‘Cartoons are simple drawings they don’t have to be perfect”
“Your cartoon is never wrong or a bad drawing”
“The most important feature for expression is the eyes and mouth”
“Draw lightly then heavier and use shading to finish off”
“Animation is lots of cartoon drawings”
“Practice, practice, practice!”
“Our session was awesome”
“Use imagination to make the drawings your own”
“Draw heads the size of chicken eggs or the shape of peanuts”
“Start from the head and go down”


Grade 5 & 6
And the grade 5/6’s said :
“Dave was really funny and boy he could draw”
“No drawings are bad they are YOUR cartoon or work”
“Cartoons are simple drawings that tell a story”
“Eyes, mouth and eyebrows equal expression”
“He used his name backwards, it was really funny”
“Use different shapes for heads”
“He drew a great cartoon of Shari”
